Shelley Morrison (born Rachel Mitrani; October 26, 1936 – December 1, 2019) was an American actress. She was famous for playing the maid Rosario Salazar in the TV show Will & Grace. She was on the show from 1999 to 2006. Shelley Morrison also played Sister Sixto, a nun who often mixed up English words, on the sitcom The Flying Nun. She also had a role in the soap opera General Hospital in 1982. Kids might know her voice as Mrs. Portillo from the Disney cartoon Handy Manny.

Early life and background

Shelley Morrison was born in the South Bronx area of New York City. She was the only daughter of parents who came from a Jewish background called Sephardic. Her family moved to Los Angeles, California, when she was ten years old. Her mother, Hortense, stayed home to take care of the family. Her father, Maurice Mitrani, made clothes for a living.

Acting career

Shelley Morrison studied acting at Los Angeles City College. She got some of her first movie roles in films like Divorce American Style and How to Save a Marriage and Ruin Your Life.

From 1965 to 1967, she appeared in the TV series Laredo. She played a character named Linda Little Trees four times. In 1966, she was in an episode of Gunsmoke. In 1967, she used her own experience of learning English to play Sister Sixto. This character was a Puerto Rican nun who had trouble with English on the show The Flying Nun. Sally Field also starred in this show. Shelley Morrison played Sister Sixto until the show ended in 1970. She also appeared in the 1997 movie Fools Rush In.
