Sherlock Gnomes is a fun 2018 computer-animated mystery comedy film. It was made in 3D and directed by John Stevenson. This movie is a sequel to Gnomeo & Juliet (2011). It brings back characters from that film and adds new ones inspired by Sherlock Holmes, a famous detective created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
The film features the voices of many well-known actors. These include James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Maggie Smith, Michael Caine, Ashley Jensen, Matt Lucas, Stephen Merchant, Ozzy Osbourne, Mary J. Blige, Jamie Demetriou, and Johnny Depp. The animation was created by Mikros Image.
Sherlock Gnomes was released in the United States on March 23, 2018, by Paramount Pictures. The movie earned about $90 million around the world, while its budget was $59 million.

The Mystery Begins: Gnomes Go Missing!
The story starts with the famous detective Sherlock Gnomes and his helper, Dr. Watson. They are at London's natural history museum. Their enemy, a pie mascot named Moriarty, has taken gnomes hostage. After a quick fight, Moriarty seems to be defeated by a falling dinosaur skeleton.
Meanwhile, Gnomeo and Juliet, along with all the gnomes from their garden, move from Stratford-upon-Avon to London. Their new garden looks a bit messy compared to the others. Lady Bluebury and Lord Redbrick decide to retire. They choose Gnomeo and Juliet to be the new leaders of the gnomes.
Garden Troubles and a Big Fight
Gnomeo and Juliet's relationship starts to get a bit tricky. Juliet becomes very busy and worried about making the new garden perfect. She doesn't pay much attention to Gnomeo. To get her attention, Gnomeo decides to find a special Cupid's Arrow orchid for the garden. Benny, a friend, shows Gnomeo where the closest flower shop is.
When Gnomeo gets the orchid, an alarm goes off. Juliet has to rescue him. After they get out, they have a big argument. Juliet tells Gnomeo that the garden is more important than him right now. Suddenly, Benny calls on the walkie-talkie. He says there's a "monster" in their garden.
When Gnomeo and Juliet rush back, all the gnomes are gone! Sherlock and Watson arrive and find a clue card. It seems Moriarty is back, and he's behind the gnome disappearances.
Following the Clues Around London
Sherlock believes Moriarty survived their last encounter. A clue leads them to Chinatown. They find the next clue at Curly Fu's Emporium. They have to escape from some guards who look like black cats. Sherlock had upset these guards before.
Next, they go back to the natural history museum. Gnomeo wants to look inside, but Sherlock decides to explore an art gallery instead. Juliet follows Sherlock. Gnomeo goes into the museum with Watson. But then, a gargoyle kidnaps Gnomeo! Watson also seems to be captured. Gnomeo is taken to where the other gnomes are being held. He learns they will all be smashed during a fireworks show the next evening.
Sherlock figures out the next clue is at the royal park. He and Juliet dress up as a squirrel to get the clue from a dog. They manage to get away from the dog, who is riding a lawnmower!
Surprises and Betrayals
Gnomeo tries to free the gnomes. Only he and the Red Goon Gnomes manage to escape before the gargoyles arrive. The next clue leads Juliet and Sherlock to a doll shop. There, they meet Irene, Sherlock's former fiancée. She is still upset with him and kicks them out. But she lets Juliet back in after Juliet makes it clear she's not with Sherlock.
Irene gives Juliet the next clue. It leads her and Sherlock to Traitor's Gate at the Tower of London. There, they find Watson! He seems to be the real bad guy. Watson explains that he pretended to be Moriarty. He did this because Sherlock didn't respect him. Watson claims to have the gnomes, but they are all missing. The gargoyles then reveal they never worked for Watson. They throw Juliet, Sherlock, and Watson onto a ship.
The Final Showdown at Tower Bridge
Sherlock realizes the gnomes are being held under the Tower Bridge with pie filling. Then, the real Moriarty appears! He reveals that he was behind everything all along. He plans to smash the gnomes using the raised bridge. Moriarty saw how Sherlock treated Watson. So, he tricked the gargoyles into helping Watson. This allowed Moriarty to use Watson's map to find every gnome in London.
Sherlock and Watson agree to work together one last time to save the gnomes. They and Juliet head to the bridge on a drone. Gnomeo manages to stop the bridge from opening by having the Red Goon Gnomes dance. He reunites with Juliet, and together they defeat the gargoyles. Watson frees the trapped gnomes using soap. Moriarty chases Sherlock, trying to harm everyone. But Sherlock throws Moriarty over the bridge and into the river. Watson saves Sherlock with his cane grappling hook, and Moriarty floats away.
After all the excitement, the gnomes enjoy the fireworks. The next spring, Gnomeo and Juliet take charge of the garden. All the gnomes celebrate with Irene and the cat guards. Sherlock and Watson leave for another adventure.
