Sherman is a town located in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, United States. In the year 2000, about 1,520 people lived there. Sherman is part of the larger Sheboygan area.

Two smaller communities, Gooseville and Silver Creek, are also found within the town of Sherman.

History of Sherman, Wisconsin

How Sherman Got Its Name

The town of Sherman was first created in 1850. Back then, it was called the town of Abbott. It was named after a family.

During the Civil War, the Abbott family supported the Confederate side. Because of this, they had to leave the town. On March 25, 1865, the town's name was changed. It was renamed Sherman to honor Union General William Tecumseh Sherman.

Even today, there is still one reminder of the original name: Abbott Road.
