Sherman is a small village located in Chautauqua County, New York, United States. It is part of the larger town also named Sherman. You can find the village in the northern part of the town. It sits where several roads meet, including New York State Routes 76 and 430. In 2020, about 681 people lived in Sherman village.

History of Sherman Village
The village of Sherman officially became a village in 1890. It was named after Roger Sherman, a very important person in American history. Roger Sherman was one of the people who signed the Declaration of Independence. This document declared that the United States was a free country.
The first person to settle in this area was Dearing Dorman. There is a special granite monument on Titus Road today. It marks the exact spot where he first settled.

Sherman village covers an area of about 2.2 square kilometers (0.81 square miles). All of this area is land. There are no large bodies of water within the village limits.
Sherman is special because it is the westernmost village in all of New York State. This means it is further west than any other official village in New York.
