Sheynnis Alondra Palacios Cornejo is a famous model from Nicaragua. She was born on May 30, 2000. She won the Miss Universe 2023 competition, which was a very special moment.
Sheynnis was the first person from Nicaragua to ever win Miss Universe! Before that, she also won Miss Nicaragua 2023. She even competed in Miss World 2021 as Miss World Nicaragua 2020, where she made it into the top 40 contestants.

Early Life and School
Sheynnis Palacios was born in Managua, Nicaragua. She grew up in a town called Diriamba. She went to school at La Salle Managua Pedagogical Institute.
While at school, she won a beauty pageant called Miss Lasallista. This made her interested in beauty competitions. Later, she went to the Central American University.
University Studies
Sheynnis studied mass communication at university. This means she learned about how to share information with many people, like through TV or newspapers. She graduated in 2022.
To help pay for her studies, Sheynnis made and sold buñuelos with her mom and grandma. Buñuelos are a type of fried dough dessert. Sometimes, other kids at school were not kind to her because of this.
Helping Others
When she was younger, Sheynnis sometimes felt very worried or anxious. This experience later made her want to help others. She decided to focus on talking about mental health awareness. This became a very important topic for her in her pageants.
Before becoming Miss Universe, Sheynnis worked as a model. She was also a TV presenter and journalist in Nicaragua. She even had a show called Entiende tu mente (Understand Your Mind). This show talked about important topics related to mental health.
Beauty Pageant Journey
Sheynnis Palacios started her pageant journey in 2016. She won Miss Teen Nicaragua 2016. After that, she represented her country at Teen Universe 2017. She did very well and reached the top six.

Sheynnis took a break from pageants for a while. She returned to compete in Miss World Nicaragua 2020. She won this competition too! As Miss World Nicaragua, she represented her country at Miss World 2021.
Miss World 2021 Competition
The Miss World 2021 competition was planned for December 2021 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. However, many people involved got sick with COVID-19. Because of this, the final show was moved to March 2022. Only the top 40 contestants were invited back. Sheynnis was one of these 40, which was a great achievement.
In August 2023, Sheynnis won Miss Nicaragua 2023. This win gave her the chance to represent her country at the biggest pageant of all, Miss Universe 2023.
Winning Miss Universe 2023

As Miss Nicaragua, Sheynnis competed in Miss Universe 2023. The competition took place on November 18 in San Salvador, El Salvador. Sheynnis won the crown!
This was a historic win for Nicaragua. She became the first person from Nicaragua to be crowned Miss Universe. She was also the first person from Central America to win Miss Universe on her own. Before her, Justine Pasek from Panama became Miss Universe 2002 after the original winner resigned.
Traveling the World
During her time as Miss Universe, Sheynnis traveled to many countries. She visited at least 31 countries around the world! This made her the most traveled Miss Universe winner ever. She visited places in Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Africa. Some of the countries she visited include the United States, Mexico, Indonesia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Thailand, China, India, France, Greece, Colombia, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Kenya, and Jamaica.
Reaction in Nicaragua
Sheynnis Palacios's Miss Universe win was celebrated by many people in Nicaragua. However, it also caused some discussion. Pictures of her from protests that happened in Nicaragua between 2018 and 2022 were shared.
The government of Nicaragua first said they were happy and proud of her win. But later, there were reports that two artists were stopped from finishing a mural dedicated to Sheynnis. Also, the owner of the Miss Nicaragua competition, Karen Celebertti, was accused of some things by the police. She later retired from her role in Nicaragua. In February 2024, Karen Celebertti became a new director for the Miss Universe Organization.
After Miss Universe
On November 16, 2024, Sheynnis Palacios crowned Victoria Kjær Theilvig as the new Miss Universe 2024.
On March 15, 2025, Sheynnis shared some exciting news. The Miss Universe Organization gave her the Mouawad Force for Good crown as a special gift. This was to honor her amazing year as Miss Universe.
Personal Life
In September 2024, Sheynnis confirmed that she was in a relationship. She is dating Carlos Gómez "El Cañón," who is a former baseball player from Venezuela.
