Shigar District facts for kids
Shigar District is a special part of Pakistan, located in a beautiful mountainous area called Baltistan. It's one of ten districts in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. Think of a district like a county or a smaller area within a larger region.
Shigar District was created in 2015. Before that, it was part of a bigger area called Skardu district. It shares its borders with other districts and even another country! To the south and southwest, it's next to Skardu district. To the east, you'll find Ghanche District. To the north, it touches Xinjiang, which is a part of China. And to the northwest, it's near Hunza, Nagar, and Gilgit Districts.
Shigar Town: The Heart of the District
The main town in Shigar District is called Shigar town. This is where the district's government and important offices are located, making it the capital. Shigar town is about 30 kilometers (around 18 miles) away from Skardu city, which is another important place nearby.
Home to a Giant Mountain
Shigar District is famous for being home to part of K-2, which is the second-highest mountain in the entire world! Imagine a mountain so tall it almost touches the sky. K-2 is a huge, impressive peak that attracts climbers and adventurers from all over.
