Shiro Teshima (手島 志郎, born February 26, 1907 – died November 6, 1982) was a Japanese football player. He played as a forward for the Japan national team.

Who Was Shiro Teshima?

Shiro Teshima was a talented football player from Japan. He was born in Hiroshima Prefecture on February 26, 1907. He played as a forward, which is a player whose main job is to score goals.

Club Football and Early Life

Teshima played for a club called Tokyo OB Club. With his team, he won the 1933 Emperor's Cup in 1933. The Emperor's Cup is a very important football competition in Japan, similar to a national cup tournament. He played alongside other famous players like Shigemaru Takenokoshi and Teiichi Matsumaru.

Before playing for Tokyo OB Club, Shiro Teshima went to Hiroshima High School. Later, he studied at Tokyo Imperial University from 1929 to 1932.

Playing for Japan

In May 1930, while he was still a student at Tokyo Imperial University, Shiro Teshima was chosen to play for the Japanese national team. This was for the 1930 Far Eastern Championship Games, which took place in Tokyo. Japan won this championship!

Teshima made his first appearance for Japan on May 25, 1930. In that game, he scored a goal against the Philippines. A few days later, on May 29, he played again and scored another goal, this time against the Republic of China team. In total, he played 2 games for Japan in 1930 and scored 2 goals.

Life After Football

After finishing his studies at Tokyo Imperial University, Shiro Teshima stopped playing professional football. He started a new career and joined the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Later, in 1940, he joined a company called Tanabe Pharmaceutical. He helped develop their football club.

Shiro Teshima passed away on November 6, 1982, when he was 75 years old. In 2008, many years after his death, he was honored by being chosen for the Japan Football Hall of Fame. This is a special place for people who have made a big impact on football in Japan.
