Teiichi Matsumaru (松丸 貞一, Matsumaru Teiichi, February 28, 1909 – January 6, 1997) was a Japanese football player. He was a talented Midfielder who played for the Japan national team.
Matsumaru's Club Career
Teiichi Matsumaru was born in Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan, on February 28, 1909. He became a well-known football player.
He played for a team called Keio BRB. This team was made up of players who went to or graduated from Keio University. With Keio BRB, Matsumaru helped his team win the Emperor's Cup twice. They won in 1932 and again in 1936.
Matsumaru also played for another team, the Tokyo OB Club. There, he played alongside other famous players like Shigemaru Takenokoshi and Shiro Teshima. Together, they won the Emperor's Cup in 1933.
Playing for Japan's National Team
In May 1934, Teiichi Matsumaru was chosen to play for the Japan national team. This was a big honor for him. He joined the team for the 1934 Far Eastern Championship Games. These games were held in Manila, a city in the Philippines.
Matsumaru played his first game for Japan on May 13, 1934. They played against the team from the Dutch East Indies. During this competition, he also played in matches against the Philippines and the Republic of China. In total, he played 3 games for Japan in 1934.
Teiichi Matsumaru passed away on January 6, 1997, when he was 87 years old. In 2015, his achievements in football were recognized when he was added to the Japan Football Hall of Fame. This is a special place for the greatest football players in Japan's history.
