About Short Creek
Short Creek is named after the actual creek that flows through the area. This creek is about half a mile away from the Ohio River. The Short Creek stream starts in northern Ohio County and then flows into Brooke County.

The Short Creek stream has two main branches, or "forks." These are called the North Fork and the South Fork. Both of these forks begin far to the west in Washington County, Pennsylvania, and also in the southwestern part of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
Life Along the Creek
You can find homes and buildings along the creek. These stretch from the bottom of Dean's Hill and West Liberty Hill all the way to where Short Creek meets the Ohio River. In the past, there were many small family farms and coal mines located along the creek. These mines helped provide energy for the area.

Even though Short Creek is a community, it doesn't have a big shopping area of its own. Most people who live there go to Wheeling to do their main shopping. Wheeling is a larger city nearby that offers more stores and services.
