Syed Sibt-e-Hasan (Urdu: سید سبط حسن) was a very important writer, thinker, and activist from Pakistan. He lived from 1916 to 1986. Many people see him as a key figure who brought ideas like Socialism and Marxism to Pakistan. He also played a big role in starting the Progressive Writers Association. This group encouraged writers to focus on social issues.
His Life Story
Syed Sibt-e-Hasan was born on July 31, 1916. His hometown was kushaha, in a place called Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, India. When he was in college, he had some amazing teachers. Two of them, Amarnath Jha and Firaq Gorakhpuri, later became famous thinkers in India. They even received a high award called the Padma Bhushan.
He finished his first degree at Aligarh Muslim University. For more studies, he traveled all the way to the US. There, he attended Columbia University. In 1942, he joined the Communist Party of India.
After India was divided in 1947, he moved to Lahore, Pakistan, in 1948. He worked as an editor for important magazines like Naya Adab and Lail-o-Nehar. Syed Sibt-e-Hasan passed away on April 20, 1986. He had a heart attack in New Delhi while returning from a meeting in India. He was buried in Karachi, Pakistan.
