Sierra Alta is a special kind of neighborhood called a barrio. It is located in the town of Yauco, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 1,063 people lived there.
A Look at Sierra Alta's History
After the Spanish–American War, Puerto Rico became part of the United States. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became an unincorporated territory of the U.S. This means it is a territory that belongs to the U.S. but is not a state.
In 1899, the United States government counted everyone in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census showed that 1,411 people lived in Sierra Alta barrio at that time.
