This village is a top tourist spot in Buenos Aires Province. It offers many places to relax and have fun. You can explore its natural beauty and enjoy outdoor activities.

The Village's Name and History

The town was founded on January 17, 1908. Its first name was Villa Tívoli Argentina. A person named Diedrich Meyer started the town. It grew around the local railway station.

Later, the village was renamed Sierra de La Ventana. This new name came from a nearby mountain peak. The peak is called La Ventana. It is 1,186 meters (about 3,891 feet) tall.

The Famous "Window" Peak

The name "La Ventana" means "The Window" in Spanish. This is because the mountain has a natural rock formation. It looks like a huge window! This opening is 9 meters (about 30 feet) wide. It is also 11 meters (about 36 feet) high.

In 1959, this amazing peak was declared a Natural Monument. This means it is protected for its unique natural beauty.

The Grand Hotel's Story

A large, fancy hotel resort opened in 1911. It was called Club Hotel de la Ventana. It was located near Villa Ventana, about 17 kilometers (10.5 miles) from the town.

For a short time, the hotel attracted rich and famous guests. But then World War I started in Europe. This made it hard for the hotel to get visitors. So, it closed in 1920.

Later, the hotel was used for a different purpose. Between 1940 and 1946, it held some sailors. These were crew members from a German warship. The ship was called the Admiral Graf Spee. Its captain had sunk the ship near Montevideo, Uruguay. This happened at the end of a sea battle called the Battle of the River Plate. The hotel became a place where these sailors stayed.
