The Sierra de San Just is a mountain range found in the Cuencas Mineras area of Aragon, Teruel Province, Spain. Its highest point is a mountain also called San Just, which stands at 1,522 meters (about 4,993 feet) tall. This mountain range is located in a very cold and rugged part of Aragon.

Exploring the San Just Mountains

The Sierra de San Just is known for its interesting landscape. Sometimes, large amounts of earth and rocks can slide down the mountainsides. These events are called Landslides.

Besides the main mountains, this area also includes flat lands like the Plains of Visiedo near the town of Visiedo. Other parts of this geographic zone are the Altos del Zancado and the region around Ejulve. A road called N-211 crosses through the range near Gargallo, following the sides of the mountains.

Mining in the Mountains

The Sierra de San Just range has important natural resources. It contains deposits of lignite, which is a type of soft brown coal. The mines in a nearby area called Utrillas have been used to dig up these resources for a very long time. People were already mining here during the time of the ancient Romans!
