History of Silver Lake
The area around Silver Lake was once a very popular amusement park. This park opened in 1874. Ralph H. Lodge bought the lake and the land around it that year.
At first, it was a place for picnics and swimming. Over time, it grew into a huge amusement park. The 600-acre Silver Lake Amusement Park became one of Ohio's biggest attractions. It had animal exhibits, a roller coaster, sports areas, a dance hall, and a hotel. During its best years, more than 10,000 visitors came each day.
The park was sold in 1917. The land was then divided into smaller plots for homes. This led to the official creation of the village in 1918.
