Silvia Maciá (born 1972) is an American marine biologist and professor of biology. She teaches at Barry University in Miami Shores, FL. She studies ocean life, both in labs and in the wild.
Her research looks at many things. She studies how pipefish find mates. She also looks at how different plants and animals live together in seagrass beds. Another area of her work is how animals graze on coral reefs. She also works on restoring seagrass areas that have been damaged.
Maciá is famous for a cool discovery: Caribbean reef squid (Sepioteuthis sepioidea) can fly! She and her husband, Michael Robinson, were on a boat near Jamaica. She saw something fly out of the water. At first, she thought they were flying fish. But then she realized they were squid!
