Sinitta Malone, known simply as Sinitta, is a British-American singer. She became famous in the mid-1980s with hit songs like "So Macho" and "Toy Boy". She had many other popular songs during that time. In the 2000s, she became well-known for appearing on TV shows. These included Loose Women, The Xtra Factor, and This Morning. In 2011, she also took part in the ITV show I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!.

Early Life and Beginnings
Sinitta was born in Seattle, Washington, in the United States. Her mother is Miquel Brown, a popular Canadian disco and soul singer from the 1970s and 1980s. Her father's name is Anthony.
Sinitta has a sister named Gretta, who was adopted by a relative. Sinitta grew up in Seattle and later Detroit. She often traveled with her mother on music tours, even to places like Sydney. When her mother directed the London show of Hair, Sinitta went to boarding school in East Sussex. She also attended ballet school in Tunbridge Wells from age nine. At 12, while still in school, she auditioned for musicals in London. She performed in The Wiz.
Music Career Highlights
Starting Out in Entertainment
In 1981, Sinitta appeared in the film Shock Treatment. She was credited as Sinitta Renet. She continued her career by performing in several West End shows. These included the first production of the musical Cats. She also appeared in Little Shop of Horrors. In 1983, she was in the music video for Forrest's song "Rock the Boat".
Big Hits: "So Macho" and "Toy Boy"
In 1986, Sinitta released her song "So Macho". It started at number 59 on the UK charts. Later that year, it climbed to number 16, then to number 5. The next week, "So Macho" reached number 2 in the UK. This was her highest-charting song ever. It stayed in the Top 20 for six weeks. "So Macho" also reached the Top 20 in Sweden, Australia, and Austria. Her next song, "Feels Like the First Time", was not as successful, reaching number 45.
In 1987, Sinitta worked with famous producers Stock Aitken Waterman (SAW). Their first song together was "Toy Boy". This song was inspired by a newspaper headline about Sinitta's personal life. It included a rap written by Sinitta herself. "Toy Boy" started at number 41 and quickly rose to number 4 in the UK. It stayed there for three weeks and remained in the Top 20 for eight weeks. The song also reached number 3 in Switzerland. It was a Top 20 hit in Ireland, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, and Germany.
Sinitta then released "GTO", which reached number 15 in the UK. "GTO" was also a hit in Spain, reaching number 3. It reached number 11 in Switzerland, number 9 in Norway, and number 13 in Ireland. Sinitta's first album, Sinitta!, was released and reached number 34 in the UK. It also charted at number 69 in Australia.
In 1988, Sinitta released "Cross My Broken Heart" from her album Sinitta!. It reached number 6 in the UK and number 7 in Ireland. It also charted at number 12 in Spain. Her next single, "I Don't Believe In Miracles", reached number 22 in the UK.
Wicked Album and New Sounds
In 1989, Sinitta started working with different producers. She released her second album, Wicked. The first song from this album was a cover of Maxine Nightingale's "Right Back Where We Started From". It debuted at number 19 in the UK and climbed to number 6. The next week, it reached number 4 and stayed there.
This song also did well in other parts of Europe. It reached number 7 in Finland and the Top 40 in Denmark, Spain, and Germany. "Right Back Where We Started From" was also very successful in Australia and New Zealand. It reached number 7 in Australia and number 2 in New Zealand, becoming her highest-charting song in both countries. The song was also one of the top songs of the year in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.
Her next song, "Love on a Mountain Top", reached number 20 in the UK and number 81 in Australia. The final song from the album did not chart. In 1990, Sinitta released "Hitchin' a Ride", which reached number 20 in the UK. "Love and Affection" peaked at number 62.
Later Music and TV Appearances
In July 1992, "Shame Shame Shame" debuted at number 31 in the UK and later reached number 28. In April 1993, Sinitta released an EP called The Supreme. It had four cover songs originally by The Supremes and reached number 49 in the UK. In 1995, Sinitta released a covers album called Naughty Naughty. This was her only album released in Asia.
She also performed in live shows. In 1997, she toured with Sonia and Luke Goss in a concert called What a Feeling.
The X Factor Era and Television
Helping Out on The X Factor
In 2004, Sinitta first appeared on The X Factor. She helped Simon Cowell choose his final three acts for the live shows. She helped pick Verity Keays, Rowetta Satchell, and the winner, Steve Brookstein. She continued to help Simon Cowell in 2005, 2006, 2009, and 2010. In 2006, she helped choose Leona Lewis, who became a very successful winner. In 2010, she helped choose One Direction, who became one of the biggest acts from the show.
In 2011, Sinitta helped Louis Walsh for the first time on The X Factor. She helped him choose his final acts.
Reality TV and Other Shows
In 2007, Sinitta became a judge on the ITV show Grease Is the Word. The next year, she joined the TV show Loose Women as a presenter. In November 2011, Sinitta joined I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! as a contestant. She entered the jungle on Day 3.
In 2013, she helped Louis Walsh again on The X Factor. That same year, she appeared in a music video for a cover of a-ha's "Take On Me" for Children in Need. In December, she was on Celebrity Come Dine with Me.
In 2014, Sinitta joined the reality TV show The Jump on Channel 4. She was eliminated fourth, finishing seventh overall.
Return to Music and Recent Appearances
Sinitta returned to music in 2014 with a cover of her mother's song "So Many Men, So Little Time". She performed this song at Pride in London. She also returned to The X Factor in 2014 to help Simon Cowell again. She helped choose Fleur East and the winner, Ben Haenow.
From 2009 to 2014, Sinitta was a main presenter on The Xtra Factor. She interviewed the friends and family of the contestants. In 2016, she became a producer and lead presenter for Xtra Factor, saying she had "revamped" the show.
Sinitta also appeared on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway in 2016. She was a regular on the chat show Up Late with Rylan. She also competed on Celebrity Masterchef, but was eliminated in Week 1.
Her first Christmas song, "I Won't Be Lonely This Christmas", was released on December 3, 2021.
Sinitta took part in the 11th series of Celebs Go Dating. She left the show in episode 14 after not finding love. She made a surprise performance in the final episode in Cyprus.
In 2024, Sinitta toured with a live stage show of The Masked Singer at Butlin's holiday resorts.
Personal Life
Sinitta was married to Andy Willner from 2002 to 2010. They have two adopted children. She has shared parts of her life in videos, and a book is expected to be released.
