Sivells Bend is a small community in Cooke County, Texas, United States. It's not an official city, but a place where people live together. It's located very close to the Oklahoma border, about four miles south. In the year 2000, about 50 people lived there. A Look at Sivells Bend History

Around 1850, two brothers, Simon and Bill Sivells, moved to this area. They came from a place called Kentucky Town, Texas. They started a small store, and the community was named after them. However, they had to close their store because of attacks from Native American tribes.

It took nine more years for a stable community to form. In its early days, Sivells Bend was mostly a farming community. A part of the famous Chisholm Trail passed through the town in the late 1860s. This trail was used to move cattle.

Growth and Changes Over Time

By 1872, Sivells Bend had its own post office. Ten years later, in 1882, the town had grown quite a bit. It had three general stores where people could buy supplies. There were also three steam-powered mills that ground grain and processed cotton. The town had two doctors and a blacksmith, who made and repaired metal items. About 100 people lived there at this time.

During the American Civil War, a group of soldiers from the Confederate army was based in Sivells Bend. This group was led by Captain Clark.

In the 1930s, oil was discovered in Cooke County, which brought some changes. But by the early 1940s, the population dropped to 40 people. This happened when a large army training base, Camp Howze, was being built nearby. The Sivells Bend post office closed in 1973.

The population went back up to 100 in the late 1960s and early 1990s. In the 1980s, the community had many homes, a Methodist church, and the Bearhead Baptist Church. By 2000, the population had decreased again to 50 people.
