Skövde Municipality (called Skövde kommun in Swedish) is a special local government area in western Sweden. It is located in Västra Götaland County. The main town and administrative center of the municipality is Skövde.
The municipality we see today was created in 1971. This happened when the City of Skövde joined together with five smaller areas around it. Before that, in 1863, there were almost 30 separate small areas. By 1952, these had already been combined into just six.
