Skip Peete, born on January 30, 1963, is a well-known American football coach. He currently helps the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the National Football League (NFL) by coaching their running backs. Before joining the Buccaneers, he coached running backs for several other NFL teams. These included the Los Angeles Rams, Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, and Oakland Raiders. He also coached college football teams like UCLA, Michigan State, Rutgers, and the University of Pittsburgh.

Skip Peete's Football Journey
Playing Days as a College Star
Before becoming a coach, Skip Peete was a talented football player himself. He played college football for the Kansas Jayhawks. In 1985, he was recognized as an All-Big Eight Conference wide receiver. This means he was one of the best players in his position in that college league.
Starting His Coaching Career
Skip Peete began his coaching career in 1988. He started as a graduate assistant at the University of Pittsburgh. He worked his way up, eventually coaching future football legends.
Coaching College Talent
At the University of Pittsburgh, he coached Pro Football Hall of Famer Curtis Martin. Martin later became a famous NFL running back. While at Michigan State, Peete coached Muhsin Muhammad and Derrick Mason. Both of these players went on to have very successful careers in the NFL.
During his time at UCLA, Peete coached running back Skip Hicks. Hicks had amazing seasons, rushing for over 1,000 yards in back-to-back years. He also scored more than 20 touchdowns each season. Hicks set a Pac-10 record with 55 career touchdowns, showing Peete's skill in developing players.
Coaching in the NFL
Skip Peete has spent many years coaching in the National Football League. He has helped many running backs achieve their best.
Success with the Oakland Raiders
With the Oakland Raiders, Peete helped running backs like Tyrone Wheatley and LaMont Jordan. Wheatley rushed for a career-high 1,046 yards in 2000. Jordan also had his best year in 2005, rushing for 1,025 yards. In the 2002 season, Peete coached Charlie Garner. Garner had a fantastic year with 962 rushing yards and 941 receiving yards.
Time with the Dallas Cowboys
On February 15, 2007, the Dallas Cowboys hired Peete as their running backs coach. In his first year, he helped Marion Barber make his first Pro Bowl. Barber rushed for 975 yards and 10 touchdowns, both career highs. Two years later, Peete's coaching helped the Cowboys' running game achieve a team record. They averaged 4.8 yards per carry, which is very efficient.
Coaching Other NFL Teams
After his first time with the Cowboys, Peete joined the Chicago Bears. He reunited with Marc Trestman, who had been an offensive coordinator with the Raiders. Peete then moved to the Los Angeles Rams' coaching staff in 2016.
Return to the Cowboys and Buccaneers
On January 15, 2020, Skip Peete returned to the Dallas Cowboys for a second time. He continued in his role as running backs coach. He stayed with the team until January 25, 2023.
Currently, as of February 21, 2023, Peete is the running backs coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Skip Peete's Family Life
Skip Peete comes from a family with a strong football background. His brother is Rodney Peete, who was a quarterback in the NFL. His father, Willie Peete, also coached in the NFL. Willie Peete was a running backs coach for the Bears from 1995 to 1997. After that, he became a scout for the team.
Skip Peete is married to Rebeca. They welcomed twins, a son named Reeco and a daughter named Gisele, in April 2007.
