Skullcandy's Story

B4BC 2007 Donation

Skullcandy was started by Rick Alden and Cris Williams in 2003. Their very first product was called the Skullcandy Portable Link. They showed it off at a big technology show called the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The LINK system was special because it combined headphones with hands-free phone technology. This meant people could listen to music and also make or take calls using their cellphone. Skullcandy even has a patent for the wireless version of this LINK technology.

In 2008, Fortune magazine called Skullcandy products "the world's coolest ear buds."

In 2011, Skullcandy bought another company that makes headphones, Astro Gaming. This helped Skullcandy grow even more.

Later in 2016, Skullcandy was going to be bought by Incipio, a company that makes phone cases. However, that deal did not happen. Skullcandy then agreed to be bought by Mill Road Capital for about $197 million. This deal was completed on October 3, 2016, and Skullcandy became a private company again.
