SkyRoads is a super cool computer game from 1993. It was made by a company called BlueMoon Software. This game is actually a new version of an older game called Kosmonaut. SkyRoads became very popular and was sold all over the world, from the U.S. to Taiwan. It's known for its fun space adventures and tricky roads!

How to Play SkyRoads

Playing SkyRoads is pretty simple and fun! You use the space bar to jump. The arrow keys help you move your spaceship around. Pressing the "Up" arrow makes your ship go faster. The "Down" arrow helps you slow down.

At the bottom of your screen, you'll see some important meters. These show your current speed, how much oxygen you have, and how much fuel is left. There's also a meter that shows your progress through the level. Next to that is a "grav-o-meter." This meter tells you about the planet's gravity. A low number like 100 means you feel almost weightless. A high number like 1700 means it's very hard to jump!

If your spaceship crashes, runs out of fuel, or runs out of oxygen, you'll have to restart the level. You also restart if you fall off the roads into space!

Special Road Colors

The roads in SkyRoads come in different colors. Each color does something special when your ship touches it:

  • Dark Gray: This part of the road is "Slippery." Your ship can't steer left or right here. It just keeps going in the direction it was already headed.
  • Dark Green: This is a "Sticky" road. Your ship will slow down very quickly if you land on it.
  • Light Green: This is a "Boost" road. It makes your ship speed up really fast!
  • Light Red: Watch out for this one! This is a "Burning" road. If your ship touches the main part of a light red square, it will explode. But, you can safely drive on the very edge of these squares.
  • Blue: These are "Supplies" tiles. When you touch a blue tile, your oxygen and fuel get refilled. Some levels have blue tiles hidden away. You need to find them to finish the level!

Every level in SkyRoads ends with a tunnel. When you go through the tunnel, you fly out into space. This means you've won the level!

The Legacy of SkyRoads

After SkyRoads became a hit, BlueMoon Software released a special version in 1994. It was called Skyroads XMAS-Special. This version looked and played just like the original. However, it had completely new levels that were much, much harder!

BlueMoon also worked on a new project that was like a modern version of SkyRoads. It was called Stellar Xpress. This project was meant to be a simple demo for a company that made virtual reality gear. But, the project was eventually stopped and never released.
