The official spelling for this community is Sky Londa, as approved by the U.S. Board of Geographic Names. However, you might also see it spelled Skylonda. This second spelling is often used by the state government, like on some road signs.
The name "Sky Londa" likely comes from the names of the two main roads that cross there: Skyline Boulevard and Woodside-La Honda Road. Maps from as far back as 1909 show the name "Sky L'onda."
Homes and Water in Sky Londa
Many of the unique homes in Sky Londa were built in the early 1930s. They are made from redwood logs, giving them a special look. A developer created these homes and set up a way to get water to them.
The redwood "logs" were actually leftover pieces from making railroad ties. A mill at the intersection used to cut these logs. Today, the local water still comes from wells and La Honda Creek. The Sky L'onda Mutual Water Company delivers this water to 154 homes in the area.

At the main intersection of State Route 35 and State Route 84, you'll find a few businesses. There are two gas stations, a convenience store, a real estate office, and a small place for events.
One very famous spot is Alice's Restaurant. It used to be a general store, and it was the first business in Sky Londa. In the 1960s, a woman named Alice Taylor bought it and gave it her name. Alice's Restaurant is well-known as a stop for motorcyclists, hikers, and tourists. A family has owned and run it since the 1970s.
