History of Smiths Ferry

A long time ago, in 1887, a man named Clinton Meyers started a ferry service here. A ferry is like a boat that carries people or things across a river. Meyers used his ferry to move livestock, which are farm animals like cows or sheep, to their summer feeding grounds.

The ferry was also popular with freighters, who were people who transported goods. In 1891, Meyers sold the ferry to Jim Smith. That's how the place got its name, Smith's Ferry!
