Smithton's Story
Smithton was officially planned and marked out on a map in 1859. This process is called "platting." The city was likely named after an important person. It could be Gen. George R. Smith, who helped build railroads. Or it might be named after General Thomas A. Smith. Both were important figures in Missouri's past.
