Smolan is a small city located in Saline County, Kansas, in the United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 162 people.

History of Smolan
Smolan got its name from a place in Sweden called Småland. Many of the first people who settled here came from that Swedish province.
A post office was opened in Smolan in 1887. It helped people send and receive mail for many years. The post office closed down in 1997.
Geography and Location
Smolan is located at 38°44′17″N 97°41′2″W / 38.73806°N 97.68389°W. This means it is in the northern part of the world, and west of the main longitude line.
The United States Census Bureau says that the city covers a total area of about 0.13 square miles (0.34 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water.

In 2010, there were 215 people living in Smolan. These people lived in 80 different homes. About 59 of these homes were families.

There used to be a Smolan High School. Its mascot was the Smolan Swedes. However, this school closed when school districts were combined.
