Snake Falls is a beautiful waterfall located in the Smokey Hollow Resource Management Area. It's found in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. This waterfall is about 25 meters (82 feet) tall!

Snake Falls is a special type of waterfall called a talus ribbon cascade. This means the water flows over a pile of broken rocks, looking a bit like a ribbon. There's also another waterfall nearby called Lower Snake Falls. Even though Snake Falls is in Burlington, the land it sits on is actually owned by the City of Hamilton.

Driving Directions

If you're coming by car, here are the steps:

  • Take Highway 403.
  • Exit onto Highway 6 North (towards Guelph).
  • Drive for about 3 kilometers (about 2 miles).
  • Turn right onto Highway 5 East (also known as Dundas Street East).
  • Then, turn right onto Mill Street just before you reach the railway tracks.
  • After you go under the railway bridge, you'll see the parking lot for the Smokey Hollow Resource Management Area on your right.

Hiking to the Waterfall

Once you've parked, you'll need to hike a bit to reach the falls:

  • Look for the Bruce Trail and follow it.
  • You'll come to a spot where a small stream (called a tributary) joins a larger one.
  • Walk along this small stream for about 5 minutes.
  • Soon, you'll see the beautiful Snake Falls!
