A Glimpse into Sodwalls' Past
Have you ever wondered how Sodwalls got its name? Local historians say that between 1827 and 1829, a special house was built here. This house had walls made of sod (chunks of earth with grass) and a roof made of grass. It was built for troopers, who were like early police officers, on a road called Major Lockyers Road. They called this unique house ‘Sodwalls,’ and that's how the area got its name!
The Railway Connection
Sodwalls used to have its own railway station. This station was part of the Main Western railway line, an important train track in New South Wales. Today, the Central West XPT train still uses this line. It travels from Sydney all the way to Dubbo. When it passes through the Sodwalls area, it stops at Rydal to the east and Tarana to the west.
