About the Western Rough Goldenrod
The western rough goldenrod is a plant that lives for many years. It can grow up to 90 centimeters (about 3 feet) tall. It has special underground stems called rhizomes that help it spread.
Its lower leaves can be about 10 centimeters (4 inches) long. Leaves higher up on the stem are much smaller. Each plant can grow many small, yellow flowers, sometimes as many as 260! These flowers grow in a branching pattern.
