Sophia Baddeley (born Sophia Snow, 1745 – July 1786) was a famous English actress and singer. She was known for her beautiful voice and her performances on stage.
Early Life and Stage Career
Sophia Baddeley was born in London in 1745. Her father, Valentine Snow, was a special trumpeter for King George II. He taught Sophia music from a young age, preparing her for a career in music.
When she was 18, she married an actor named Robert Baddeley. He performed at a famous theater called Drury Lane in London.

Sophia first acted on stage on April 27, 1765. Her first role was Ophelia in William Shakespeare's play Hamlet. She also played other important characters in Shakespeare's plays, such as Cordelia in King Lear, Imogen in Cymbeline, and Olivia in Twelfth Night.
In 1769, Sophia joined the theater company of David Garrick, a very famous actor and theater manager. She performed in a special show for the King, called a Royal Command Performance, on October 12, 1769. She acted in the play The Clandestine Marriage.
Sophia was especially known for her singing talent. She performed at popular public gardens like Ranelagh and Vauxhall, where she was greatly admired by the public.
Later Years
After separating from her husband in 1770, Sophia continued her successful career. She was admired for her beauty and lived a very grand lifestyle.
Later in her life, Sophia faced some difficulties. She moved to Dublin, Ireland, and then to Edinburgh, Scotland. Her health began to decline, and she made her last stage appearance in Edinburgh in 1785.
Sophia Baddeley died in July 1786, at the age of 41. She passed away from a lung illness in Edinburgh.
