The Doellingeria sericocarpoides, also known as the southern tall flat-topped aster or southern whitetop aster, is a beautiful plant. It is a perennial forb, which means it's a plant that lives for many years and does not have a woody stem. This plant grows naturally in the eastern United States.

It can be found from eastern Texas and southeastern Oklahoma all the way to northern Florida. It also grows north into New York State, though it is not as common there.

About the Southern Tall Flat-topped Aster

The southern tall flat-topped aster can grow quite tall, reaching up to 150 centimeters (about 5 feet) high. It spreads out using special underground stems called rhizomes. This helps new plants grow nearby.

Flowers of the Aster

This plant can produce many small flower heads, sometimes as many as 200! Each flower head is like a tiny bouquet. It has 2 to 7 white petals, which are called ray florets. In the center, there are 4 to 20 yellow parts, known as disc florets. These bright flowers make the plant easy to spot.
