Southside is a semi-rural area in the Gympie Region of Queensland, Australia. It's a mix of town and country living. In 2021, about 6,312 people lived here.

Where is Southside?
Southside is located on the southwest side of the Mary River. Its name makes sense because it's just south of the main town of Gympie.
Southside's Past
This area was first known as Gympie South.
Schools in the Past
Gympie South Side State School first opened its doors on July 4, 1910. Later, on May 13, 1954, its name was changed to Gympie South State School.
Cooloola Christian College started in 1992.
Churches in Southside's History
In November 1937, a Methodist Church from Chatsworth was moved to Southside. It was placed next to the South Side State School. This church had originally opened in 1885.
The Gympie Wesleyan Methodist Church opened on January 15, 2006. Before this, a group of people from the Mary Valley Wesleyan Methodist Church started meeting in Gympie in 1990. They first met in a hall and later bought land in Southside to build their own church.

Gympie South State School
This is a government primary school for students from Prep (the first year of school) to Year 6. It's located at 50 Exhibition Road. In 2017, about 532 students attended this school. It also has a special education program for students who need extra support.
Cooloola Christian College
This is a private school that teaches students from Prep all the way to Year 12. You can find it at 1 College Road. In 2017, about 396 students were enrolled here. This college is run by a not-for-profit group made up of four different churches.
High Schools Near Southside
Southside does not have its own government high school. Students usually go to Gympie State High School or James Nash State High School. Both of these schools are in the nearby town of Gympie.
