Sovereignty (born February 22, 2022) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse. He became famous for winning the 2025 Kentucky Derby, one of the biggest horse races in the United States.

About Sovereignty

Sovereignty is owned by Godolphin, a very well-known group of horse stables. These stables belong to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is the leader of Dubai. Godolphin is famous for raising and racing many top horses around the world.

Sovereignty's Race History

Sovereignty started his racing career as a two-year-old in 2024.

Two-Year-Old Season (2024)

His first race was a "Maiden Special Weight" race at Saratoga. This means it was for horses who had not won a race yet. He finished fourth in this race, which was 6 furlongs long (about three-quarters of a mile).

In September 2024, he raced again at Aqueduct over 1 mile. He showed improvement, finishing second by a "neck," which means he was very close to winning.

Sovereignty got his first win in October 2024 at the Street Sense Stakes. This race was at Churchill Downs, the same track where the Kentucky Derby is held. He won by 5 lengths, which is a big lead! This race was a Grade III race, meaning it was an important race for young horses.

Three-Year-Old Season (2025)

As a three-year-old, Sovereignty continued to race in big events.

In March 2025, he won the Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park. This was a Grade II race, showing he was getting even better. He won by a "neck" again, proving he could win close races.

Later that month, he raced in the Florida Derby, a Grade I race at Gulfstream Park. He finished second, losing by just 1 and a quarter lengths.

His biggest race came on May 3, 2025, when he ran in the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. This is one of the most famous horse races in the world and is a Grade I event. Sovereignty won the Kentucky Derby by 1 and a half lengths, making him a champion!

Sovereignty's Family Tree

Just like people have family trees, racehorses have a "pedigree." This shows who their parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents were. It helps people understand where a horse gets its speed, strength, and other talents.

Sovereignty's father is a famous horse named Into Mischief. His mother is a horse named Crowned. You can see his full family tree below, showing many generations of his ancestors.
