Spatnik Island is a small island in Antarctica. It's partly covered in ice but also has areas that are ice-free. This island is about 485 meters long and 290 meters wide. Its total surface area is about 6.62 hectares.
Spatnik Island is part of the Dannebrog Islands group. These islands are found within the Wilhelm Archipelago, which is located in the Antarctic Peninsula region. The name "Spatnik" comes from the Bulgarian word ostrov Spatnik, meaning "satellite island." It was named this because its shape looks a bit like a communications satellite.
