Spedden is a small community called a hamlet. It is located in central Alberta, Canada. You can find it within Smoky Lake County. Spedden is just 0.3 kilometers north of Highway 36. It is also about 106 kilometers southwest of Cold Lake.

Spedden's Past: A Quick Look

Spedden got its name from a surveyor. This person was one of the first to map the area. They sadly passed away there in 1919. Before that, the place was called Cache Lake.

In 1919, a train track arrived in Spedden. It was part of the Canadian National railway. By the end of that year, people from St. Paul helped extend the line. They pushed it another 50 kilometers. This new part went through Ashmont to reach their town.

How Many People Live Here?

In 1991, a count was done across Canada. It was called the 1991 Census of Population. This count was done by Statistics Canada. It showed that 56 people lived in Spedden at that time.
