History of Splendora
In the late 1800s, a railway company called The Houston, East and West Texas Railway decided to build a special train track. This track was built where Splendora is now. Charles Cox suggested this spot.
At first, the area was known as "Cox's Switch." More people started to move there after W.W. Burrow opened a general store in 1883. In 1896, the town's name was changed to Splendora. This new name was chosen because of the "splendor of its floral environment," meaning the area had many beautiful flowers. Splendora officially became a city in December 1966.
