Spyro: Year of the Dragon is a platform game developed by Insomniac Games. The game was published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the Playstation in 2000. Year of the Dragon is the third chapter in the Spyro series. It was the last Spyro game Insomniac developed; their next title would be Ratchet and Clank for the PlayStation 2. It was released in North America and the PAL regions in October and November 2000, separately. However, unlike the other 2 games, it was not given a Japanese release.
Named after the animal in the Chinese Zodiac, which was the symbol at the time of the game's release, Year of the Dragon is based on a nominal purple dragon Spyro as he travels to the "Forgotten Worlds" after 150 magical dragon eggs are stolen from the land of the dragons from an evil sorceress. People travel through thirty different worlds collecting gems and eggs. Year of the Dragon introduced new characters and minigames to the series, as well as improved graphics and music.
With it's release, the game sold more that two million copies in the United States and received critical approval. Reviewers noted the game built on the successful formula of its former chapters by adding new activities and wide-ranging environments.
It was remade as a part of Spyro Reignited Trilogy.
