Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! is an exciting platform game where you play as a brave little dragon named Spyro. It was released for the PlayStation console. The game came out on October 31, 1999, in North America. It was also known as Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer in Europe and Australia. In Japan, it was called Spyro X Sparx Tondemo Tours.

This game is the second adventure in the popular Spyro video game series. It continues the story from Spyro the Dragon. After this game, Spyro's next big adventure was Spyro: Year of the Dragon. Fans can also play a modern version of this game. It was remade as part of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy.

The Story Begins

In Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!, Spyro and his dragonfly friend, Sparx, are trying to go on vacation. They want to relax at Dragon Shores. But something goes wrong! Instead, they are pulled into a new world called Avalar.

Meeting New Friends

When Spyro arrives in Avalar, he meets some new friends. These include Elora the Faun, Hunter the Cheetah, and the Professor. They explain why Spyro was brought to their world. Avalar is in big trouble!

The Evil Ripto

A mean, small creature named Ripto has invaded Avalar. Ripto hates dragons, so he is causing chaos. He has taken over the world with his helpers, Crush and Gulp. Spyro is the only dragon who can stop him.

How to Play the Game

Your main goal in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! is to defeat Ripto. To do this, you need to travel through different lands in Avalar. Each land has its own challenges and enemies.

Collecting Important Items

As you explore, you will collect special items. These include:

  • Orbs: These are magical spheres that help power up certain areas or unlock new paths.
  • Gems: You collect these shiny treasures from defeated enemies or hidden spots. Gems are used to pay Moneybags, a bear who helps you by opening new areas or teaching you skills.
  • Talismans: After you complete a level's main goal, a character gives you a talisman. These are very important for moving forward in the game.

Spyro's Abilities

Spyro has many cool moves to help him on his journey:

  • Charge: Spyro can run very fast and ram into enemies or break objects.
  • Flame Breath: He can breathe fire to defeat enemies or light things up.
  • Glide: Spyro can jump and glide through the air to cross gaps.
  • Hover: At the end of a glide, he can hover for a short time to land safely.
  • Swimming and Climbing: Unlike the first game, Spyro can now swim underwater and climb ladders.

Worlds to Explore

The game is divided into several main worlds, called "homeworlds." Each homeworld has many levels you can visit.

  • Summer Forest: This is the first homeworld you visit. It's a green and lively place.
  • Autumn Plains: A colorful world with different challenges.
  • Winter Tundra: A snowy and icy world, often the toughest to explore.

Boss Battles

At the end of each homeworld, you will face one of Ripto's powerful helpers. You must defeat Crush and Gulp in exciting boss battles. Once you defeat them, you can move on to the next homeworld.
