History of St. Edward
St. Edward was founded in 1871. When it was first settled, it had a different name: "Waterville."
How St. Edward Got Its Name
A post office was opened in Waterville in 1874. A few years later, in 1877, the name was changed to Saint Edward. This new name was chosen to honor Edward Sorin, a Roman Catholic priest.
