The church is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saint John's – Basseterre. A diocese is like a special area managed by a bishop. This diocese was created in 1971. It was established by Pope Paul VI. The main office for this diocese is in St. John's. This city is in Antigua and Barbuda.
History of the Community
The Catholic community in Anguilla started a long time ago. They first organized in 1948. At that time, they built a small chapel. However, a big hurricane hit in 1961. This storm sadly destroyed the chapel. After the hurricane, Catholics met at Wallblake House. They continued to gather there for several years. The current St. Gerard Church was finished in 1966. It has been a place of worship ever since.
