St. Jacob or Saint Jacob is a small village located in Madison County, Illinois, United States. In 2020, about 1,358 people lived there. This was an increase from 1,098 people in 2010.

History of St. Jacob

The village of St. Jacob got its name from a man named Jacob Schutz. He owned a store, a saloon, and a tavern, which he called the St. Jacob House.

A famous person from St. Jacob was Earl E. Herrin (1892–1964). He was a businessman and also served as a state representative for Illinois. Shawn Mcsparin, who is the drummer for the country rock band Shotgun Creek, also lives in Saint Jacob.

Where is St. Jacob?

St. Jacob is located in the southeastern part of Madison County. You can find it at these coordinates: 38°43′1″N 89°46′2″W / 38.71694°N 89.76722°W / 38.71694; -89.76722.

U.S. Route 40 runs along the north side of the village. This road can take you about 6 miles (10 km) northeast to Highland or 6 miles (10 km) west to Troy. The big city of St. Louis is about 26 miles (42 km) to the west.

The village covers a total area of about 0.85 square miles (2.2 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with only a tiny part (about 0.01 square miles or 0.02 square kilometers) being water. The water in the village flows into small streams that lead to Silver Creek. Silver Creek then flows south into the Kaskaskia River.
