How It Started
The story of St. John the Baptist Church began in 1847. Eleven years before the current stone church was built, nine German immigrant families started the parish. An immigrant is someone who moves from one country to live in another. Their first church was a simple building made from logs. It stood at the very top of John's Hill Road.
Building the Stone Church
The beautiful stone church you see today was built in 1858. It stands on the same spot where the first log cabin church once was.
Location and Its Importance
The church is located in Campbell County, Kentucky. From its spot, you can look out over the Licking River. This location was very important during the American Civil War. The church's site was used as part of the defenses for Cincinnati, Ohio. This helped protect the city during the war.
