A Look Back at Wilder's History
Wilder has a long history. It was once known by a different name: Leitch's Station. This was the very first settlement established in Campbell County.
How Wilder Got Its Name
The name "Wilder" came from a railroad station. This station was built in the mid-1800s for the Louisville, Cincinnati and Lexington Railway. It was called "Wilder Station." Today, this historic station is on land owned by Newport Steel.
Important Buildings in Wilder
In 1858, German immigrants built the St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Wilder. This church is an important part of the city's history.
There is also a famous country music nightclub in Wilder called Bobby Mackey's Music World. It is known for many stories of strange happenings. People sometimes call it "the most talked-about nightclub in America."
