St. Joseph is a small community in Wisconsin, United States. It is located in La Crosse County, within the town of Greenfield.
St. Joseph is known as an "unincorporated community." This means it doesn't have its own separate local government like a city or village. It's also a "census-designated place" (CDP), which is an area the U.S. Census Bureau defines for gathering population data.
The community sits where State Highway 33 and County Trunk Highway M meet. In 2010, about 503 people lived in St. Joseph. It is part of the larger La Crosse area.

Where is St. Joseph Located?
St. Joseph is in the southern part of La Crosse County. It's in the northeast section of the town of Greenfield. To its west is the town of Washington. St. Joseph is the only named community within the town of Greenfield.
If you travel on State Highway 33, St. Joseph is about 12 miles (19 km) east-southeast of La Crosse. It's also about 17 miles (27 km) west-northwest of Cashton.
Land and Water Around St. Joseph
The St. Joseph area, as defined by the Census Bureau, covers about 1.9 square miles (4.9 square kilometers). This area includes the main community and some rural land around it.
The community is on top of a place called St. Joseph Ridge. It sits at an elevation of about 1,300 feet (400 meters) above the valleys nearby.
To the north of St. Joseph, a small valley called St. Joseph Coulee leads to Bostwick Creek. This creek flows west into the La Crosse River. The La Crosse River then joins the mighty Mississippi River near La Crosse. To the south, smaller streams flow into Mormon Creek, which also goes west directly to the Mississippi River.

A group of nuns, the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, have their retirement home in St. Joseph. This is an important part of the community's economy and history.
