St Anthony's Football Club, often called the Ants, is a football team from Glasgow, Scotland. They play in green and white striped uniforms. This club is part of a special group of teams that are not in the very top leagues.
Club History
St Anthony's Football Club was started in 1902. For many years, they were part of the Scottish Junior Football Association. In 2020, things changed for many local clubs. St Anthony's joined the new West of Scotland Football League. This meant they became part of the main football system for the first time.
The team first played in the Govan area of Glasgow. Later, they moved to two different fields near Ibrox Stadium, which is the home of Rangers. Since 2003, their home field has been McKenna Park in Shieldhall. This park is just north of the M8 motorway. Even though it's in Shieldhall, some people still say it's in the Cardonald area.
The Ants had some exciting moments in their early years. They reached the final of the Scottish Junior Cup twice, in 1919 and 1925. However, they didn't win the trophy on those occasions. They did win other awards in the Scottish Junior Football League before 1922. After that, they joined the more important Glasgow Junior Football League. They stayed with this group through different football eras, even into the 21st century. In 1938, they won the West of Scotland Junior Cup. After World War II, they didn't often compete for the biggest awards.
