The St Elizabeth of Portugal Church is a Roman Catholic church in Richmond, south west London. It is located on The Vineyard, Richmond. The church is next to The Vineyard Life Church.
This church is named after Elizabeth of Portugal, a queen from the 1300s. It is thought to be the oldest Catholic church still standing in the Archdiocese of Southwark. The building is also a Grade II listed building. This means it is an important historical building.

History of St Elizabeth of Portugal Church
The first church building here was built around the 1790s. The church you see today was built in 1824. It was a gift from Elizabeth Doughty.
Building Design and Changes
The church was designed by an architect named Thomas Hardwick. It is made from yellow and red bricks. In 1851, a gallery was added inside the church.
Later, in 1903, parts of the church were rebuilt. This included the chancel (the area around the altar), the presbytery (where the priest lives), and the tower. These changes were planned by architect Frederick Walters.
Inside the church, you can see the Stations of the Cross. These are pictures or sculptures that show events from the last day of Jesus' life. They were designed by Don Pavey in the 1950s. Jo Ledger painted them.
Famous Visitors to the Church
Some well-known people have visited or worshipped at St Elizabeth of Portugal Church. One famous worshipper was ex-King Manoel II of Portugal. He attended the church in the early 1900s.

Marriages at the Church
- Phil Lynott, a famous rock musician, married Caroline Crowther here. Caroline is the daughter of British comedian Leslie Crowther. Their wedding was on February 14, 1980.
- Barbara Dickson, a singer, songwriter, and actress, married Oliver Cookson here. Oliver is a TV producer. They were married in August 1984.
Funerals at the Church
- The funeral for rock musician Phil Lynott was held here. He passed away in 1986. The service took place on January 9, 1986.
