St Faith's Church in Nottingham is a historic building that has served different church groups over the years. It is also known as St Faith's Church, North Wilford. It started as a church for the Church of England.
History of St Faith's Church
St Faith's Church first opened its doors on October 16, 1915. The Bishop of Southwell officially opened it. Building the church cost about £7,000 at that time. This was a very large amount of money back in 1915!
The church was built to serve a new "parish," which is like a local area for a church. This new parish was created from a part of the St Wilfrid's Church, Wilford area.
Changes Over the Years
St Faith's Church was a Church of England parish church until 1981. After that, a different church group, the Elim Pentecostal Church, started using the building.
Later, the Full Gospel Revival Church took over the building. They are working to raise £500,000 to fix up and restore the church.
Leaders of the Church
Many different vicars, or church leaders, have served St Faith's Church over the years. Here are some of them:
- Albert Edward Barnacle (1914 - 1919)
- Sidney Charles Belcher (1919 - 1937)
- Angus Inglis (1937 - ????)
- Rupert Hoyle Brunt (1946 - 1951)
- Arthur Gordon Boyd Parsons (1958-1960)
- Michael Thomas Whalley (1960 - 1968)
- Gordon Derek Mills (1967 - 1972)
- John Pennington of St Mary's Church, Nottingham (1976 - ????)
There was a time from 1972 to 1976 when the church did not have a vicar. However, the church's organist, Keith Duckitt, helped keep it running during those years.
The Church Organ
St Faith's Church had a special musical instrument called a two-manual pipe organ. This organ was made by a company called E. Wragg & Son.
If you are interested in learning more about this type of organ, you can find details about it on the National Pipe Organ Register.
