History of St Faith's Church
St Faith's Church first opened its doors on October 16, 1915. The Bishop of Southwell officially opened the church. It cost about £7,000 to build, which was a lot of money back then. The church was designed by architects Sutton and Gregory from Nottingham.
How the Church Changed Over Time
For many years, until 1981, St Faith's was an Anglican parish church. This means it was a local church for the Church of England community.
After 1981, the building was used by different church groups. First, an Elim Pentecostal Church took it over. Later, the Full Gospel Revival Church started using the building. This group has been working to raise money to fix up and restore the church.
Vicars of St Faith's Church
A vicar is a priest who is in charge of a church parish. Here are some of the vicars who served at St Faith's Church:
- Albert Edward Barnacle (1914 – 1919)
- Sidney Charles Belcher (1919 – 1937) – He later became the vicar of St. Mary's Church, Radcliffe on Trent.
- Angus Inglis (1937 – ????) – He later became the vicar of St Peter's Church, Nottingham.
- Rupert Hoyle Brunt (1946 – 1951) – He later became the vicar of St James' Church, Hampton Hill, London.
- Arthur Gordon Boyd Parsons (1958–1960)
- Michael Thomas Whalley (1960 – 1968)
- Gordon Derek Mills (1967 – 1972)
- John Pennington of St Mary's Church, Nottingham (1976 – ????)
Between 1972 and 1976, the church did not have a vicar. However, the church's organist, Keith Duckitt, helped keep the church running during that time.
The Church Organ
St Faith's Church had a special musical instrument called a pipe organ. It was a two-manual organ made by a company called E. Wragg & Son. You can find more details about this organ in the National Pipe Organ Register, which is a list of organs in the country.
