The Parish Church of St. Mark is a church located in Layton, Lancashire, England. It was built in 1927 and is a part of the Church of England. This church is a place where Christians gather. Even though St. Mark's is quite new compared to many other churches, it has strong connections to the history of Layton Village, which was mentioned way back in the Norman Era (1066-1154 AD).

Building St Mark's Church
The idea for St. Mark's Church came from Reverend E.T. Williams and architect Mr. E.E. Dennis. They designed the church with strong features, similar to Norman Architecture. Building work started in 1925.
The church was built using red brick from Rainhill Sandstone. This is the same type of stone used to build the famous Liverpool Anglican Cathedral. The builders, J.R. Fielding & Sons, worked with Mr. Tom Roberts, a master stonemason, and Mr. J.R. Bell, a wood-carver.
The building was finished in 1927. The Bishop of Blackburn, Dr. Percy Herbert, officially opened and blessed the Church of St. Mark, Layton, on September 27, 1927. Tom Roberts installed a huge amount of stone, and you can see his detailed carvings, especially in the Sanctuary area. J.R. Bell's beautiful wood carvings are also part of the church's design.
The Church Organ
St. Mark's Church has a special musical instrument called a pipe organ. It was made by Ernest Walklet. This organ cost £430 when it was installed.
The organ was first played on March 29, 1934, by Frank Rawes from Poulton Parish Church. You can find more details about this organ on the National Pipe Organ Register website.
