About St Mary at the Elms
This church has an old entrance on its south side, built in the Norman style. The main part of the church, called the nave, and the side area, known as the north aisle, were built in a style called Perpendicular Gothic. A newer part, the north chapel and chancel, were added in 1883.
St Mary at the Elms is known as a 'High Anglican' church. This means it follows certain traditions within the Church of England. It is also connected to a group called Forward in Faith.
The church is home to a special copy of a statue called Our Lady of Ipswich. The original statue was once in Ipswich but is now in Nettuno, Italy.
In July 2010, the church had some damage from a fire.
The Church Organ
The church has a beautiful organ that was built in 1912 by a company called Hunter. You can find more details about this organ on the National Pipe Organ Register.
