About Stanley Townsend
Early Life and Training
Stanley Townsend was born and grew up in Dublin, Ireland. He went to Wesley College, Dublin for his schooling. After that, he studied math and civil engineering at Trinity College.
While at Trinity College, Stanley joined the Dublin University Players. This was the college's drama club. He loved acting so much that he later helped start a theatre company called Rough Magic. He performed in many plays with them, like The Country Wife.
After college, he acted in famous Dublin theatres like The Gate and The Abbey. He also worked with well-known directors in London, such as Sam Mendes and Richard Eyre. In 2004, he won an Irish Theatre Award for his role in the play Shining City. He was also nominated for another big award, the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Actor. Stanley now lives in London.
Acting Career
Stanley Townsend has had a busy career in acting. He started with TV shows for RTÉ in Dublin. When he moved to London, he appeared in many popular TV series. These include Spooks, Hustle, and Waking the Dead. He also acted in the TV film Omagh Bombing.
He has also been in many movies. Some of his film roles include Into the West by Mike Newell. He worked with Daniel Day-Lewis in Jim Sheridan's In the Name of the Father. He also appeared in The Van by Stephen Frears and The Libertine with Johnny Depp. Other films include Wondrous Oblivion and Flawless.
